Serial ports are basic physical connectivity hardware point for terminating a TDM ( Time Division Multiplication - TECLCO terminology ) links to a Network device ( Such as Routers, WAN switches, ATM switches etc.). There are three types of serial interface available - 1. Low speed Serial interface - for terminating 64 K line 2. Serial Interface - for terminating 2MBPS Links 3. DS3 Serial interface - For terminating 45 MBPS DS3 links
